THE BOOK OF ELI
I finally got around to watching this 2010 post-apocalyptic movie, and I wanted to like this one. I really did. Don’t get me wrong, the cinematography was great and the visual appeal was there, the casting was spot on with real talent (Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis), but when it is all said and done, this movie just wasn’t very good.

It is a film that tries to build to something great, pulling the audience through clever twists, all the while being a thought provoking idea- only it fails on all levels and I place the blame squarely on the script. This film could have been something so much more and I hate all of the potential that was wasted here. Washington, Oldman, and The Hughes Brothers have done better work. If only they kept rewriting the script to beef up the actual content maybe this film would’ve been good. As it is, it is “meh” at best and I would not recommend it.

Want to watch a post apocalyptic film? Go see something else, anything else, just don’t watch this. Not worth your or anyone else’s time, because time is more valuable then this film.

New Lara Croft Tomb Raider Actress

With how fast news travels, it is already old news that Warner Brothers has acquired the film rights to the Lara Croft Tomb Raider video game franchise.  The WB has confirmed that their plans will ignore the past two Angelina Jolie Croft films and they will relaunch and completely overhaul the franchise’s film series. Personally I think this is awesome news. Even though Jolie was perfect for the artifact-collecting beauty, the films were sub-par at best. A fresh approach and series is just what they need. And that is going to start with a new actress.

E! Online is reporting that Megan Fox (Transformers) is a front runner for the role, while Ain’t It Cool News is pushing for Rhona Mitra (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans) to take over for Jolie.  Megan Fox is a fan favorite and the role could push her into superstar status (not that she isn’t seen that way already by teenage boys world wide).  Mitra would be an interesting choice for the role. AICN reports that she was the original inspiration for the video game version of Lara, which means she fits the part physically and with Doomsday and an Underworld sequel under her belt, she has shown that she can handle the action.

Personally, neither Fox or Mitra would be my number one choice for the role. I’d much rather see Mila Kunis as Lara Croft. Kunis has the right amount of attitude and hotness for Croft, and she has also proven her place in the video game action genre (Max Payne).

What do you think? Who would you like to see take over as Lara Croft?

mila kunis is beautifulMila Kunis has been cast in Warner Brothers’ post-apocalyptic western, The Book of Eli. She joins Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman in this film about a warrior (Washington) who must fight across the country while protecting a book that might be the key to saving humanity.

The film is being helmed by Albert and Allen Hughes, the team behind 2001’s lackluster graphic novel adaptation From Hell. The brothers also wrote and directed Menace II Society and Dead Presidents.

The film starts shooting in January, so we shouldn’t expect to see it until January of 2010 at the earliest. Personally, I don’t like Denzel that much, but I have an undying love for Kunis and Oldman.  Add that to my love of westerns (even weird sci-fi westerns) and my butt just might be in the theater on opening day.
