What is in your pull list this week?

logan-poster

Logan opens on March 3 and stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Richard E Grant. This is being billed as Jackman’s final film in the role of Logan/Wolverine in the X-Men series.

The Pit

It has been a while since we took a trip into The Pit and I can honestly say that I’ve missed writing the column. What started as a way to throw out some opinions on various news stories turned into a fun way to spotlight multiple topics without the need to do a full blown articles on any of the subjects. I can’t promise that I’ll be able to write this column daily, but I’m going to try to make it a weekly thing.

BatmanBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is getting closer and closer (the movie is only a little more than 6 months away!!!). New photos from the movie has been released online, you can check them out in a Gallery on the movie’s official website (the site also features the movie’s trailer and some other goodies).

A new rumor cropped up today via Heroic Hollywood that Warner Brothers is so trilled with Ben Affleck’s performance that they want even more Batman in the film and are working to make that happen. Personally I hope they don’t over do it. Sometimes, less is more. If the movie is working and Batman is the standout, keep it that way. Don’t try to force more of a good thing, just let it happen organically. Either way, I’ll be seeing  Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on opening night.

Wolverine

Unfortunately, Hugh Jackman is sticking to his story that Wolverine III will be his last movie as the beloved gruff X-Man. On the plus side, there is rumor has it that he has a role (or cameo) in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, so while Wolverine III might be his last ride as the hero, it will not be the only movie we have to look forward to with Jackman in the role.

Another awesome rumor is that we will see the return of Victor Creed, aka Sabretooth, in the new solo Wolverine outing. Creed was played by ex-wrestler Tyler Mane in X-Men, but recast with Liev Schreiber in the prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Schreiber was easily the best part of a otherwise disappointing first Wolverine solo outing, but I’d welcome seeing him have another go at the villain. Hopefully the material in the new movie will be up to par (it better be if its the last time we’ll see Jackman as the Wolverine.

Ash in an Evil Dead Series

We are just a month and a half away from the premiere of Ash vs Evil Dead on STARZ! I can not wait to see Bruce Campbell return to the iconic role and face-off with a new crop of Deadites!

The series has a new official description: “Ash vs Evil Dead follows Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.” The show also has a new behind the scenes video, click here to watch the “First Look” for Ash vs Evil Dead.

deadpool-17

Deadpool has reached the halfway mark with part three of the five part “The good, the bad and the ugly” arc as writer Brian Edmund Posehn sheds new light on the Merc with the Mouth’s origin. Joining the anti-hero are Avengers Captain America and Wolverine, both of whom are tired to Deadpool’s past. All are joined as weird siblings of sorts due to the Super Soldier/Weapon X/Weapon Plus programs. How do you think this will all come together?

X-Men: Battle of the Atom 1

Here we go! X-Men: Battle of the Atom is here. After 15 issues of All-New X-Men with the original team in the present fighting to fix “their future” and the fall out from “X-Men vs Avengers” felt deeply in Uncanny X-Men, and Wolverine’s continued growth along with the future generation of mutants in Wolverine and the X-Men, we have a lot coming to head in the first crossover that will take us through these books to deal with the consequences of time travel. A future team of X-Men will be coming to the present in an effort to set things right” and get the original X-Men to return to their time, but there is much more going on with sentinels (as seen above) and a mystery villain from the future.

X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1
Official Description: The past, present and future of the X-Men collide in this 50th Anniversary event crossover! When investigating a new mutant, something truly horrible happens to the All-New X-Men that shakes time and space to its core. This is so dire that X-Men come from THE FUTURE with a message: THE ALL-NEW X-MEN MUST RETURN TO THE PAST! The ten-part crossover starts here with superstars Brian Michael Bendis and Frank Cho!

The crossover begins on September 4th from Marvel Comics. Will you be following the X-Men from the past to the future and beyond? What do you think will be the outcome from the story?

After ten issues and countless spinoffs, Age of Ultron issue 10 has finally hit stands. The book has promised to change the shape of the Marvel Universe with a big twist and lasting effects- I will not spoil things here, but go get the issue and see for yourself. Big changes? Yeah, I’d say so. Lasting effects? That is more of a wait and see. Can’t say for sure without seeing where they go with this. In the very least, the end of Age of Ultron could explain some of the holes created with the slow staggered launch of “Marvel Now!”.

Age of Ultron #10
Official Description: THE FINALE! The biggest secret in comics will be revealed to you! An ending so confidential… even the artists of this book don’t know what lies on the final pages…! A surprise so big that comic book legend Joe Quesada himself returns to the pages of Marvel Comics to draw a sequence that people will be talking about for years.

The issue hit stands this past Wednesday, June 19th, 2013 from Marvel Comics.

Here we go, a new era begins for Marvel’s Avengers as they enter Marvel Now! with a new creative team, Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena, and a new number 1. Hickman has promised a large roster of heroes as part of the team and we can see from the covers above that it includes all of the movie Avengers (although they all look very different with their Marvel Now! makeovers) and an assortment of Marvel’s popular recent Avengers, including Wolverine, Spider-Man, Falcon and Spider-Woman.

Brian Michael Bendis had a long and very well done run with Avengers and New Avengers, but this shakeup is needed to keep things fresh and moving forward. I can’t wait to see which characters are a part of the book. While I think DC Comics handled their “New 52” reboot/rebranding very poorly from a fan’s point of view, I think Marvel has treated fans with respect during the creative changes that have come along with “Marvel Now!”. DC Comics should take note on how to not alienate your core group of fans.

Avengers #1
Official Description: The greatest heroes in comics together on one unbeatable team! Now shipping twice a month, the Avengers “go large,” expanding their roster and their sphere of influence to a global and even interplanetary level. When Captain America puts out his call – who will answer? Big threats, big ideas, big idealism – these are the Avengers NOW!

You can pick up the issue on Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 and you’ll have to pick it up fast because the Marvel Now! #1s have been selling out. I didn’t get to the store quick enough and I’m waiting for a second printing of All New X-Men #1 as we speak.
