To celebrate the opening of SeaWorld’s newest attraction, Manta, they are holding a contest where you could take home a “Front-of-the-line” pass for the Manta in SeaWorld Orlando.

The ride lets you spin, glide, skim, and fly like a ray as you experience a seamless blend of animal encounters and a head-first, face-down roller coaster. Check out this video to “feel” it for yourself…

The official Manta website gives you 6 different activities to win a Manta “Front-of-the-line” pass. These activities include a Manta trivia game, filling your row (with friends and family), submitting a creative picture to Flickr, a video to YouTube, Tweeting, and by making a Manta mask.

  • In the Manta trivia game, you have to search the Manta site for hints and answers to test your knowledge of all things Manta! You’ll have to answer 5 questions correctly with only three chances to get them right.
  • To fill your row, you’ll have to find three friends that are interested in SeaWorld’s Manta ride and get them to sign up an account along with you.
  • How creative are you? When creating a picture for Flickr, they want you to use the phrase “I Heart Manta” in the most creative way that you can think of (put it on a shirt, banner, skate board, tattoo – anything you can think of).
  • Are you a young Spielberg? Are you excited to go to SeaWorld? In the forth activity they want you to make a short video about how excited you are.
  • Did you know that Shamu is a veteran Twitter? He wants you to Tweet him with how excited you are.
  • And the last activity includes downloading a Manta mask and showing it off on Flickr (along with your “I Heart Manta” photo).

After you complete two of these activities, you’ll get one complimentary electronic photograph from your Manta ride experience at SeaWorld Orlando, and if you can accomplish all six, than you’ll be able to get your “Front-of-the-line” pass for the all new ride. What can be easier than that?

Jay Leno

Tonight on NBC, an era comes to and end with Jay Leno’s last episode of the Tonight Show. I watched his jokes nightly when I was little and even though he’ll have a new primetime show, it just will not be the same. His last guest is his successor to the mantle, the hysterical Conan O’Brien, and the great James Taylor. I’ll be watching, will you?

Also on tonight…

8PM

  • FOX: Don’t Forget the Lyrics (Gameshow)
  • MNT: Friday Night SmackDown! (Wrestling)

9PM

  • ABC: Un-Broke: What You Need to Know About Money (Special)
  • NBC: Dateline NBC (News Showcase)

10PM

  • ABC: 20/20 (News Showcase)
  • E!: The Soup (Comedy Clip Show)
  • SCIFI: Primeval (Fantasy Sci Fi)

I love movie trailer mesh-ups and this one is a lot of fun. Who wouldn’t want to see a Transformers/Terminator crossover film? Or in the very least terminating Shia? Kidding of course. Enjoy!

No more remakes, leave Buffy and Aliens alone

Not once, but twice this week I’ve been pissed off so much that I haven’t felt like writing about movies or the movie business.  Earlier this week came a report that Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with Fran and Kaz Rubel on a remake/relaunch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer without the input of creator Joss Whedon. Now there is a report that Fox is going forward with a remake of Alien. Seriously, why?

I enjoyed the original Buffy movie, but was completely blown away by the television show. Like many fans, I’ve followed the characters I love into the comics and will continue to follow them into the future. A future we all hoped might include a feature film. Now we get word that a feature is in the works. A feature without Joss Whedon? Without Sarah Michelle Gellar? Without David Boreanaz? No James Marsters? Alyson Hannigan? Anthony Head?  Buffy is nothing without the world Joss created. If they want to go ahead and make a movie about a vampire slayer, than go ahead, why in the world would they want to piss off a fan base and call it Buffy the Vampire Slayer when it isn’t. Worse yet, when that movie tanks, it will hurt… or kill… our chances of ever seeing a REAL Buffy movie.

20th Century Fox, the franchise killer, is going to remake Alien. Ridley Scott’s original sci-fi horror film is near perfect and was followed by one of the best action sci-fi films of all time, James Cameron’s Aliens. Do they think they can top those two films?  Anything they come up with to remake this franchise will be a waste of time and as craptastic as Fox’s recent Alien vs Predator films. I really wish that Fox would stop wasting our time and stop pissing on beloved movies.

Uncanny X-Men 510 Preview

To be honest, I gave up the X-Men comics for a while.  Don’t get me wrong, the 12 issue “Messiah Complex” crossover was awesome, but I felt like the line of X-Books couldn’t keep of the quality afterwards. I dropped the three core titles (has Ellis’ Astonishing X-Men had more than two issues?), Young X-Men, and X-Force, but keep following X-Factor (one of the best ongoings on the market) and Cable.

Recently, the X-Men ditched the mansion in Westchester (they could only keep rebuilding it so many times), and now moved to the Graymalkin Facility, a fortress like complex, in San Fransisco, where they were welcomed with open arms. They are working on their PR and trying to be proactive, instead of just defensive, for a change. Along with the move came new enemies, including the Hellfire Cult, and some familiar ones, including the Sisterhood run by an ultra powerful reincarnated Madelyn Pryor.

In the new issue, #510, the Sisterhood makes their move and attacks Graymalkin. What do they want? Will everyone survive? I’m not sure, but for the first time in a while, I’m interested to see what will happen to my favorite mutants. The issue came out last week and can currently be bought in stores and on news stands.
